Having worked in oils, acrylics, sculpture, pen and ink, and scratchboard, Susan received her Fine Arts degree from Chestnut Hill College in Pennsylvania. For the past eighteen years she has concentrated on zinc plate intaglio etching. Inheriting her mother's love and respect for nature, wildlife emerged as a major theme for her work. She utilizes her field sketches and photos from wildlife rehabilitation hospitals, along with reference material from detailed wood carving books, zoos, and museums. The many intermediate steps and varied techniques of this medium make it a very interesting and ever changing process toward the final etched image. Attention to detail and realism characterize each of her wildlife portraits, accenting their natural beauty with her hand painting. She sometimes hand carves delicate feathers out of tupelo wood to frame below a few of her favorite birds. Her wildlife etchings are shown in exhibitions and galleries throughout Florida. Susan lectures on zinc plate intaglio printmaking at schools and local art guilds, is a member of the Florida Printmakers Society, and is on the advisory board of the Cornell Museum in Delray Beach, Florida.
